We use AI to level the playing field
For a small business — and for entrepreneurs — AI is how we keep pace with large companies on resources and skills. Marketing, operations, writing, and craft support we could never staff at corporate scale. That lets us stay where we belong: dog training and customer service.
A human is the source of the answer
At no point does AI give training advice on behalf of Jon or Nancy that Jon or Nancy did not give themselves.
- AI pulls the household file and builds a short summary.
- Jon or Nancy dictate the answer, in their own words.
- AI turns that dictation into a clear reply — spelling, pauses, ums.
- Jon or Nancy review and approve before anything goes out.
The words may be polished. The answer is always Jon’s or Nancy’s.
Logistics can move on their own (scheduling, routing, filing). Advice cannot. Ollie, on SMS or chat, identifies as AI.
Blogs come from real Ottawa work
In the car between lessons, Jon or Nancy talk through a real problem — the squirrels in Centretown parks, for example. That becomes a protocol. Then a post. We don’t invent the subject.
Recordings and the guide
We record the session in audio, so you can stay focused on the learning. Every question and answer, the little hints — recorded. AI then helps us prepare a comprehensive guide that feels like the session you just had. A custom manual for your dog, same day, in the app. One family received theirs in English and Cantonese. At our size, doing that by hand would have been impossible. Private lessons are never filmed.
The Manual comes from 500 hours
The BetterDog Manual was not invented at a desk. About 500 hours of real training, recorded, plus stories Jon and Nancy dictated. AI organized and wrote. The source was always the work. Members said it sounded exactly like that first session.
We audit ourselves
Three or four times a year we have sessions audited with AI: improvements, biases, service. Not a vanity report. It’s how a two-trainer company stays sharp.
Images, video, and likeness
We use AI for art and photo work. We don’t believe in being faceless. Jon, Nancy, Mimi — our own likenesses, including for demos.
When dogs appear in AI-assisted photos or videos, they come from real photos of real dogs, used with permission. We do not use a client’s face for AI generation.
Pack Walks are filmed as they happened. We don’t edit those videos for content. Voiceover, captions, celebrations — yes.
We will not fake reality
No invented advice, fake client results, fake Pack Walks, or fake testimonials.
Protocol demos are different — and we label them. Lazy Reps, loading the car: Jon, Nancy, Mimi. They illustrate a method. They are not a client lesson.
Privacy
People: a letter and a neighbourhood. A in Nepean. R in Orleans. Dogs: real names. There are a lot of Milos in Ottawa.
Even with onboarding film/show consent, we ask again before a post. Under-18 faces are blurred, unless a consented exception.
